Woodhouse Moor Litter Rant

Nik Green

I spend enough time complaining about the state of refuse collection in Leeds. I'm currently looking at a pile of bins and bin bags at the end of our street as once again we have had no collection this week, so its fair to say I don't have a lot of patience with our refuse collecting teams.

However driving past Woodhouse Moor, Leeds this morning I saw a scene that actually made we feel sorry for them.

Sorry and ashamed.

So much so I had to pull over and take these photos.

Presumably this is the detrius left by a large collection of people enjoying some sun in a green open space on the outskirts of the city centre.

What is all the more staggering is that this is a park that is smack bang in the middle of Studentville, so I'm afraid that the obvious culprits would have to be those who actually live in the mainly student areas of  Headingley and Hyde Park.

Talk about shitting in your own backyard.

To be sure, there possibly are not enough bins in this area, but that is still no excuse for what is just wanton littering and laziness. It show a complete lack of respect towards the area, the city and to themselves.

I'm not one for student bashing having been one myself, but the scale of this collective lack of respect gives the students of Leeds a bad name.

As I left, a council van had just arrived with two/three guys surveying the scene before setting about a mornings litter picking.

My respect to them.
